This year, in lieu of our annual mid-summer SHARE event, Peconic Community School is launching a week-long virtual Spring fundraiser June 3rd through 10th inspired by this trimester's "Seed to Table" Integrated Unit of Study. Welcome to GROW 2022: Rooted in Community, Together We Grow!

Beginning Monday, you can expect to receive an email each day sharing a special aspect of a PCS education, reminding us all of why we support our school, and asking for a contribution to GROW to help us bridge the gap between tuition income and operating expenses and propel PCS into our next decade of education for a better world.

Whether you are most motivated by our unique curriculum, our work serving the community, our teachers and staff, our place-based learning, or simply the cradle of love and support we nurture children within, we ask you to consider a donation to GROW in the coming days in lieu of your annual generosity for SHARE.

"Seed to Plate: East End Food" A Spring Trimester Integrated Unit of Study

GROW is inspired by our Spring trimester Integrated Unit, “Seed to Plate: East End Food.” This unit of study showcased place-based, community-centered learning at its most magical: unfolding out in the field, hand-in-hand with local experts, to enlighten children to the beauty and potential of our local landscape, industries and people.

Over the course of 15 field trips, and in conjunction with more than 20 community experts, including parents, farmers, growers, aquaculturists, activists and chefs, students engaged meaningfully and joyfully with the complex systems of nature, science, business and policy that enable the journey from seed (and sea!) to plate on the East End. From Sang Lee Farm to Magic Fountain, Southold Fish Market to the Peconic Land Trust, sprouting school gardens to the phone lines in Governor Hochul’s office, students explored what it takes to produce, distribute, sustain and ensure equitable access to locally-grown food in our communities.

It is this kind of authentic, meaningful learning that has kept us going through the challenges of the last two years of pandemic learning and inspires us as we look to the future and the next 10, 20, 100 years of learning at Peconic Community School.

We know that learning that roots children in community today helps them cultivate the care, concern and compassion they need to be powerful changemakers in our community’s future.
