Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas (CISHOT) primarily serves students and youth in McLennan and five surrounding Central Texas counties. Each year, we work with more than 4,050 students on school campuses, the majority of whom are economically disadvantaged and represent racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. In addition, our Workforce Development program supports more than 175 youth annually, preparing them for long-term success in both education and employment.

Through individualized case management, students are assessed and actively involved in crafting personalized plans that set clear goals for academic, social-emotional, and career growth. Campus Site Coordinators build trusting relationships with students and connect them to targeted supports such as mentoring, tutoring, and mental health services, while also helping them strengthen skillsets needed to succeed in school and life. Plans also incorporate student interests and strengths to create pathways toward college or career readiness.

Our Workforce program extends this support by pairing youth with career coaches who provide financial literacy training, job-readiness skills, and exposure to career opportunities. Students gain hands-on experience with local employers and learn how to develop resumes, complete job applications, and prepare for interviews with confidence. When additional needs arise, such as access to employment documents or professional resources, CISHOT coordinates with community partners to ensure timely support.

This holistic, wraparound approach addresses the root causes of disengagement and ensures that students and youth are supported every step of the way, preventing them from falling through the cracks.
