PedALS: Moving Together Against ALS

Join us for PedALS, an inspiring event that brings our community together to support families living with ALS. Every pedal, step, and roll helps provide meals, medical equipment, respite care, home visits, and essential support to the 150 ALS families we serve in West Michigan. Your participation and generosity make a real difference.

How PedALS Began

In 2017, Jim Berry, who was living with ALS, shared an idea. He believed that if a bike ride were held, his friends would show up in force. They did, raising more than one hundred thousand dollars for the Susan Mast ALS Foundation in just three rides. Jim’s idea had legs, and it quickly became clear it could grow into something even bigger.

When Dr. Phil Vanderlugt met Jim, the vision became clear and the passion was shared. Phil’s wife, Sherry, had been living with ALS for nearly a decade, and Phil was determined to make a difference for her and for others facing the same journey. Together, Jim’s passion and Phil’s determination shaped what PedALS would become.

PedALS Today

Today, PedALS is the result of two men giving it their all through hard work, connection, and an unwavering commitment to creating awareness and raising funds for people living with ALS in West Michigan. It has grown into an annual event that welcomes cyclists, runners, walkers, and rollers.

Every dollar raised through PedALS stays local and goes directly toward meals, medical equipment, respite care, home visits, and support services for ALS families who need it most. These are our families, our friends, and our neighbors.

PedALS exists because no one facing ALS should have to be on this journey alone, and because when a community comes together with purpose, extraordinary things can happen.
