Who is Project I Am NFP

Project I Am NFP is a leading service organization dedicated to spreading awareness about homelessness in our communities while cultivating youth change agents to create a global impact. Our mission is to create awareness and provide temporary support and long-term solutions for the unhoused. We believe in the power of now. Our motto, “Don’t wait to be great” drives our mission and vision to take immediate action to make a difference in our community. Why wait to become change agents - when we can do it today? We inspire a generation of servant leaders, community builders, and social entrepreneurs.

Our Story

Project I Am NFP began in 2016 with an eight-year-old and fifteen friends packing 88 bags with hygiene care, snacks, and basic first aid items to provide temporary relief to the unhoused population. Since our journey began, Project I Am NFP has had the honor of being recognized by various public figures, national brands, and professional sports teams. Each acknowledgment has significantly expanded our reach, spreading the Blessing Bag program across the nation to the unhoused population and victims of natural disasters and quickly advancing our mission to develop awareness of homelessness. In 2020, Project I Am NFP created a new initiative, the Holiday Give Back program, in partnership with True Star Media to distribute coats, toys, socks, and lunch to families at the Primo Center for Women & Children, serving 575 youth in the inaugural year.

By the end of 2023, the now 17-year-old founder, Jahkil Jackson, has continued his mission to provide support to the unhoused through Project I Am NFP services, packing and distributing more than 135,000 bags. With the desire to ignite a generation of servant leaders among his peers, Jahkil chose to develop two new initiatives in 2023: Project Project I Am: Next Up and Don’t Wait To Be Great 2.0. All of the Project I Am NFP initiatives, including our cornerstone program, Blessing Bags, are guided by our mission and vision to raise awareness about homelessness and motivate the next generation to become agents of change now.

Nine for those in Need

Join us on September 9th (9/9) as Project I Am NFP celebrates founder Jahkil Jackson’s birthday! Donate $9 to support our initiative to create blessing bags for the unhoused. Each $9 donation covers the cost of one blessing bag. Our goal is to raise funds for 1,000 bags on 9/9.

Don’t Wait to be Great

In 2022, the United States recorded 582,462 people experiencing homelessness. For those without stable housing, maintaining personal hygiene can prove to be a challenge. Due to the lack of access to running water and essential supplies, they risk their physical health, mental well-being, and self-esteem. Struggling with a loss of dignity and self-worth, homeless individuals often feel marginalized by society, making it difficult to reclaim a sense of belonging and control over their lives. Access to personal hygiene products and services can be transformative, pulling individuals out of a state of mental distress and facilitating social reintegration. With improved hygiene, opportunities such as job interviews, access to public services, and securing temporary shelter become attainable, offering a pathway toward stability and well-being.

Project I Am’ NFPs Blessing Bags project prepares bags that provide temporary relief to the unhoused population and individuals impacted by natural disasters, equipping those who receive a bag with hygiene care, snacks, and basic first aid items. The program supports homeless individuals with a chance to build their self-confidence and sense of self-worth, caring for their mental health, and with hope, opening up opportunities for individuals to emerge out of homelessness, into shelters, and onto a road of stability.

With our dedicated team and generous donors, Project I Am NFP continues to expand its reach and impact through our services. By the end of 2024, Project I Am NFP’s goal is to stuff and distribute 65,000 blessing bags to support the unhoused in our communities.
