Our Program

As a program of the National Capital Area Women's Paddling Association and Washington, D.C.’s only dragon boat team for persons touched by breast cancer, we’re committed to stoking our inner fire while growing vibrant connections to others who’ve walked the same path.

Regardless of age or fitness level, dragon boating is a life-affirming way to build physical — and mental — fitness by spending time out on the water. We’re striving to build a diverse team filled with young women, working moms, retired grandmothers, you name it — plus the family and friends who have supported us every step of the way.

Our on-the-water paddling season runs from late March through early November. In addition to weekly practices, we participate in festivals and races locally, as well as in other venues in the eastern United States. Sign up for news and announcements here.

What is Dragon Boating?

A dragon boat is a human-powered, canoe-like watercraft that dates back to ancient China. In the dragon boat, twenty of us sit two-by-two, paddling in sync. We are interdependent, each relying on the other to pull us all forward. In this action we learn something powerful: challenging ourselves on the water makes us stronger in life.
