My name is Jamie LaShomb. I am riding for my late husband, William “Bomber” LaShomb, who was a Detective with the Syracuse Police Department, and who died on October 11, 2020, at the age of 36.
Our children, Billy and Mason, were ages 9 and 6 years old, when he passed away.
Bill was a dedicated Detective and an Army Veteran. His support for law enforcement and his community was important to him, and our family.
A few years before he died, Bill told me about the upcoming Police Week in Washington D.C. He said was going to ride a bike 250 miles from Pennsylvania to Washington D.C. I was shocked (as he never rode a bike) but knew he could do it.
He found a bike. Rode it once in the neighborhood. And said he used the indoor bike a few times at the gym. He completed the ride and said he was doing it again next year. And he did, successfully again!
I will be riding this same bike in Pedal for Presents to support Operation Santa S.L.E.D. This program gave my children a full lights and sirens Christmas (with Santa on a fire truck) in our neighborhood, just 2 months after Bill died. Along with a slew of presents that made for a lot of smiles!
It’s time my children and I give back to a program that supported us in our time of need.
If you can, please donate so we can continue to help law enforcement families.
