TL;DR: The citizens of Hampton are CRAVING community and we want to be part of creating that alongside you!

Hi, I'm Shannon Kill! (Yes, that is my legal last name. We're really nice people I swear!) My husband and co-owner, David, aka DK (<- that's us at the 2026 Atlanta United Home Opener), and I moved to Hampton in 2018 with 2 young kids when there were still tons of events on the square and we were lucky enough to live right across the street from Jailhouse.

Then 2020 came and suddenly, our 900sf loft felt claustrophobic and we made the difficult decision to move a mile away to a larger house. With the spread of COVID, we watched several small businesses fail and we watched the community suffer as a result. 6+ years out, we're still seeing and feeling those effects, but something has changed. I've been hearing a common thread among the citizens of Hampton. I'm hearing a genuine desire for a return to that vibrant city, but I'm also hearing a lot of questions around HOW to make that happen.

So, we've decided we're going to dig in and do everything we can to see that happen. Platform Taphouse (website coming soon!) will be one small part of that and honestly, we need a LOT of help to make it happen.

The vision:

Platform Taphouse will be located in Downtown Hampton, GA - the exact location is TBD, but we're heavily eyeing 8 East Main St., right next to Hummingbird Flowers - the location will be heavily influenced by the timing of the funding we receive between fundraising & loans.

We'll have a small stage for live music, open mic nights, comedy shows, DJs & weekly trivia nights. There will ALWAYS be music playing.

We couldn't decide between a foosball table (DKs favorite) and an air hockey table (my favorite), so we're going to have both!

We've always loved the idea of having regular "game nights", so we'll have tons of board games and decks of cards available in a dedicated game room, and based on some feedback we received in the What's Happening In Hampton (iykyk) Facebook Group, this room will be available for rent to residents who don't wan to travel for DND campaigns!

There are also plans for a lounge area with stocked bookshelves, but whether we're able to include that in the initial build out will be dependent on a lot of different factors like: timing, building availability and available funding. But it will be a main priority as soon as we can afford it!

Our taps will primarily have Georgia brewed beers flowing through them, with a few other fan favorites, but in addition to beer, we'll have non-alcoholic options as well! We will have soda available for purchase and clean water on tap - always free, because we want Platform to be a place where you can feel safe bringing your family and staying a while.

In addition to weekly trivia nights, we would also like to have regular open mic nights, host "make and take" events & fundraisers for local community organizations, provide space for other local businesses to showcase their products and services, provide a monthly "taps off" teen night, sensory friendly nights and SO MUCH MORE! When I say we want to be a place where there is always something going on, I really mean that. It will take some time to build up to that, but the goal is to have an event of some kind going on 3-5 days/week so you never have to feel like you're missing out. We're going to aim to provide something for everyone in Hampton over time so that if you're looking for community in Hampton, you'll find it at Platform.

Our goal here is not to make a crazy profit. We just want to make enough to pay ourselves and our staff and pour everything back into the community. Once we become profitable (my profitability goal is 1-5 years; did I mention I'm a budgeting consultant in my other business? 😋), 100% of profits will go toward community initiatives like sponsoring local sports teams and funding local nonprofits like Angry Ants Community Chest.

The Ask:

There are SO MANY ways you can support us in bringing this vision to life, even if you don't have a dollar to spare right now!

1) Share share share! We will be posting like crazy (trust us, we hate it too, but we believe in this so much, we're willing to get really uncomfortable to make it happen). Share our content. Tell your friends and family about us at the cookout or sitting by the pool this summer. Talk to your church family about us. The more people who know about Platform, the better our chances of survival!

2) Donate your stuff! We will be accepting physical donations in two forms 1- If you have furniture or equipment that we need for the actual taphouse that is in GOOD condition, we will gladly take it to keep start up costs down (we're more concerned with the community aspect than the aesthetic at this point) and 2- If you have items of value that you plan to get rid of that you would be willing to donate to us for us to sell in order to raise additional funds, we are open to that as well! Space at our home is limited, so we may have to say no to some things; it will never be personal.

3) Volunteer your time! We will be setting up at as many local events as possible over the coming months. We will also be making some things (more on that later) to sell and it's going to take a lot of work, so if you are a handy person or a creative person or a people person, we can use your help with a LOT of tasks. We also need someone to design the website, help with marketing & social media and probably a lot of other things I'm not thinking about right now, so please email us at hello@platformtaphouse.com if you're interested in helping out in any way.

4) Buy something! You can pre-order Platform Taphouse merch here. (Please note that most fundraising tiers involve a gift of some sort in the form of merch) We are also working on a few handmade items now that will be available at a later date, so if you see something (links to be added later) that lights you up, please buy it knowing 100% of the profits from those items will go to opening the doors of the taphouse AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! We are also having stickers and t-shirts made that will be available for pre-order and ultimately in-person purchases soon.

5) Give money! Lastly, we've created this campaign on Givebutter to raise funds. We're including some gifts to show our appreciation, but you'll want to use this option if you are not really looking for much in return outside of the opportunity to grab a beer with us at Platform Taphouse in the near future. Again, if you just want merch, you can pre-order that here. If you are looking to invest in Platform, we are open to private loans, but we are going to be incredibly picky about the terms because we are viewing this as a community service more than a business opportunity.
