Pokey’s Place, home of NCHS, constructed in 1975, still has most of its original piping and electrical outlets. Back then, polybutylene piping was commonly used, but over time, it has been found to deteriorate, causing leaks. This breakdown is accelerated by chemicals in municipal water systems. It’s not a matter of if these pipes will fail, but when. Last year, our inspector recommended replacing them as soon as possible. The first areas that need to be replaced are the bathroom, Cuddly Closet, water heater closet, and transition room. Additionally, upgrading the electrical outlets to GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets to prevent electric shocks must be done. The risk is particularly high near sinks or water sources. These replacements need to be addressed in the transition room, dog grooming room, cat room 1, and the patio, where exposure to water is a concern. An open outlet in Cat Room 1 needs to be grounded immediately as well. Your support is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone at Pokey’s Place.
