The Giving Gaza Initiative

Mission Statement

Giving Gaza's mission is to provide food, water, and supplies to displaced peoples in the Gaza Strip. Through donations from people like you, we have bean able to provide basic life necessities like bread and diapers hundreds of displaced people currently sheltering in tents and other makeshift homes in the Gaza Strip.

Previous Campaign

You may be familiar with a previous Giving Gaza Initiative campaign hosted on Givebutter. This campaign had to be closed as the owner of the bank account attached to the campaign needed to focus on personal matters. This is currently the only campaign for Give Gaza.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to raising $9,544 of our $45,000 goal on the previous campaign. The goal for this campaign is still $45,000 as we hope to include in our work $10,000 for the purchase and operation of a solar powered well to provide water to displaced people.

Below is an account of Giving Gaza's work in the Gaza Strip before May 28, 2024:

May 28, 2024

Twenty-five diaper packs were purchased, each containing 4 bags of diapers. These were delivered to a total of one hundred children in northern Gaza. The mothers in northern Gaza who received them were very happy with this distribution work and sent their love and greetings to the Giving Gaza team.

May 14, 2024

Despite the horrific bombing in the Nuseirat camp that took the lives of 30 displaced Palestinians and injured dozens more near to where our lead in Gaza has taken shelter with his family, he was able to carry out distribution of 25,000 liters of water to other displaced families. All of us outside of Gaza are thankful and relieved for his family's safety and determined to support this important work. Donations to our fundraiser enable us to send a steady stream of funds to meet the needs of Palestinians who have been displaced multiple times, so please donate, no matter how little, and share, share, share.

May 12, 2024

Before the horrifying IOF incursions into Rafah, Giving Gaza's on-the-ground lead was able to purchase and fill six stainless steel water tanks that each hold approximately 3000 liters for three camps in Rafah. However, he was forced to flee with his family once the invasion of Rafah began, and another team member suffered a hand injury. The tanks, while full, had to be left behind.

Since leaving Rafah, there has been constant danger as our lead and his family have been without shelter at a beach where trash and disease are rampant--and where his family had been under fire from gunboats.

He has thankfully been able to build a makeshift tent for his family at a camp at Nuseirat, where there are thousands of displaced families who are experiencing a disaster and need water on a daily basis.

Yesterday, he was able to purchase distribute 25,000 liters of potable water thanks to your donations. Each existing tank at Nuseirat has a capacity of 5000 litres, and every day they need approximately $750 for water. The fee for a water truck fee is $100 per day.

We hope we can provide safe drinking water on a daily basis, and if it is safe enough to retrieve the purchased water tanks from Rafah this week, he will have them relocated to Deir Al-Balah where displaced Palestinians are also in desperate need of potable water.

As the people in Gaza continue fighting to survive the atrocities committed against them, any help we can provide becomes increasingly important. So, please continue to donate and share, share, share.

May 10, 2024

Due to IOF aggression in Rafah, Giving Gaza's lead on the ground was forced to flee on May 7th, displaced yet again. While he and his family are safe, they are living without shelter in a dangerous area where there is a lot of sewage and disease. In order to access the internet, he had to travel three kilometers to convey his situation to the rest of the group. Currently, members of The Giving Gaza Initiative are working to try to secure a tent for him and his family. As a result, there have been no distributions this week. Despite the hardships and challenges, all of us are determined to do whatever is possible, and there is a plan to provide clean water and food at the new camp he has fled to.

Giving Gaza cooked pea stew for the displaced families in Rafah, and the families thanked the Giving Gaza team and all of the supporters. There are a large number of children waiting for food every day. If you can, also please remember to add a donation for our Eid al-Adha campaign! More information can be found below.

Tonight, the families were very, very afraid and anxious as there has been violent bombing in several areas throughout Rafah.

Eid Al-Adha Campaign (May 03, 2024)

There are 45 days left until the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Adha, which is celebrated by all Muslim families.

On Eid al-Adha, those performing hajj are encouraged to sacrifice a sheep as Ibrahim did to be distributed to those in need. They continue with following specific hajj rituals for the following four days.

Muslims who aren’t performing hajj celebrate Eid al-Adha with a morning congregational prayer, followed by celebrations with family and friends. This includes visiting each other, socializing over food and providing children with gifts. Local mosques may host Eid al-Adha events, which include a variety of food and activities for children. During Eid al-Adha, it is highly encouraged to give charity and to sacrifice a sheep or other animal like Ibrahim did to be distributed to those in need.

In honor of Eid al-Adha, The Giving Gaza Initiative wants to provide sacrifices for displaced families. To do so, we will need approximately $17,000 USD to provide calves and sheep. Families in Gaza have not eaten meat for 5 months!

Giving Gaza distributed water to some displaced families in Rafah. More potable water is still needed by the thousands of nearby displaced people. We did what we could do. I hope to receive additional support so that we can continue distributing safe water. Many thanks to all the team. Many thanks to all the donors.

Giving Gaza was able to serve white beans and bread to families in two displacement camps in Rafah. Families were very happy to see work return after an interruption due to the lack of support, but with the efforts of the team in Gaza and the contributions of some merchants, we were able to work today.

Three pots of white bean stew were cooked in addition to the bread. The families also sent a message of thanks to the entire team and a message saying, "Oh Giving Gaza, O Giving Gaza, do not leave us, we want you to continue."

April 27, 2024

Giving Gaza was able to feed displaced children in Rafah. However, the displacement camp is suffering from an urgent lack of clean water. In order to provide clean water, we need to purchase 4 tanks, 2 for each of the two camps we service. We estimate that the cost of the tanks, iron platforms, and water will be $1,920.00. Please, no one can live without clean water!

Giving Gaza was able to feed some of the 100 displaced families in Rafah sheltering in two nearby displacement camps. However we need more money to feed everyone.
