That one act of kindness launched my new career as an interior designer, which motivated me to create Giving Back by Design, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to join the efforts of families and individuals working hard to overcome poverty by redesigning their homes and providing educational and life-coaching supports that promote well-being and successful living.

And why...?

To keep it simple: Because Everyone Deserves a Dream Home!

I know that interior spaces play a huge part in shaping our daily lives, influencing everything from our mood and energy levels to our cognitive function and emotional well-being.

Our interior environments are more than just furniture and art on a wall - they are dynamic settings that can either uplift and encourage us to be our best, or they can undermine our mental, physical and social-emotional health.

As a professional designer, I love transforming my clients' homes and seeing them fall in love with their homes again at the Big Reveal! It warms my heart when months later they tell me how they are still in awe of their redesigned spaces and how those spaces impact their lives for the better.

This effect of well-designed spaces wasn't exactly new to me though, because before becoming a designer, I worked in K-12 education for over 18 years. It was during that time that I first saw the power of interior design.

Year after year, I would spent countless hours decorating and organizing my classrooms for my new students. Most of my career as an educator I worked in predominately in Title 1 schools. These are schools in which most of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty. I wanted to create spaces that my students could feel good about and that promoted focus and optimal learning!

I wanted my students to feel loved, and it worked! Every year, we had fun learning, and my students excelled!

Now fast forward... with these experiences in mind, after I started working as an interior designer, I quickly realized a problem.

The people who need my design services the most are the ones that can not afford my services. Even if I made my services free, they still didn't have the money to purchase the new home furnishings and decor they so often needed.

As a teacher, I often would visit the homes of some of my students. I saw homes that were well-maintained and I also saw homes that were scarcely or poorly furnished - homes I would have never wanted to live in.

And it wasn't that the parents of these students weren't working hard. Many of them had multiple low-income jobs just trying to make ends meet.

Everyone Deserves a Dream Home!

Say it with me! "EVERYONE DESERVES A DREAM HOME!"

That means you, me, the cashier at the grocery store, the cook at your favorite fast food spot, the dishwasher in the back, your child's teacher assistant, the cafeteria workers, the janitor, the farmers, the school bus monitors, the ambulance drivers, the lifeguards, and so many more people in our communities whose jobs are "essential" to maintaining our comforts of everyday living.

And though they deserve it...their pay often doesn't line up with how important their work is to us! 😠

But that stops today! That stops with us!

Together, through the power of collective giving, we will bring the transformative power of interior design to families and individuals who are working hard to overcome poverty.

We will see them and listen to their stories.
We will give them the support and encouragement they need to keep pressing on.
We will redesign their living spaces.
We will watch them fall in love with their homes again... or for the first time.
We will cry tears of joy with them.
We will experience the love of giving.
We will do it again and again!

So please join us in launching our 'A Life Redesigned' Program in 2026!

Families and individuals that are selected for this program will have their homes redesigned by a professional interior designer.

Participants will work with a life-coach for at least one-year to identify opportunities of improvement and be connected with community resources that can help them boost their improvement efforts.

Children of the families will be supported with a year of one-on-one tutoring services to help get them back on academic track or help them stay on track.

This program will make such a difference in so many lives.

And I promise you...yours will be one of them!
