Sacred Roots Ancestral Healing School

Since 2016, Sacred Roots has been a healing and liberation hub for BIPOC movement leaders, healers, educators, culture workers, and frontline workers. As we reflect on our past offerings and the urgent needs of our communities, we are excited to launch the Ancestral Healing School—a space dedicated to cultivating sacred reciprocity between healing practitioners and the lineages of their modalities.

The school will nurture communities of care through ongoing teachings and mentorship with lineage wisdom keepers, alongside peer-to-peer support and accountability circles. Together, we will strengthen the stewardship of Indigenous Healing Arts so that movement healers can continue to weave intercultural medicine with integrity, authenticity, and depth.

Who We Are

Sacred Roots is a Black, Indigenous, Femme- and Women of Color–led organization based in Oakland, CA, and fiscally sponsored by Canticle Farm, in the village of Huichin, the unceded ancestral territory of the Chochenyo Ohlone people. We are a collective of seasoned BIPOC movement healers, culture workers, and wisdom keepers of Indigenous traditions from the Global Majority who create reciprocal, intergenerational spaces for healing, learning, and connection.

Our Mission & Vision

Sacred Roots cultivates reciprocal, intergenerational spaces where elders, youth, and culture workers share and honor ancestral wisdom. Through healing justice programs, gift economy practices, and trusted relationships, we decolonize education, sustain community leaders, and foster transformation across mind, body, and spirit. We envision a world where communities live in reciprocity, cultural and ancestral medicine is cherished and passed across generations, and resources are shared equitably to honor our humanity, resilience, and interconnected liberation. We imagine communities rooted in ancestral wisdom, cultural pride, and reciprocal relationships with each other and the earth.

We honor the healing traditions passed down through our lineages, practicing deep reverence and responsibility as we carry these medicines forward. Through intergenerational exchange, we foster mutual resourcing to sustain the flow of care, knowledge, and cultural pride across time.

Liberatory Healing & Shared Power

We center culturally rooted healing justice, decolonization, and liberatory learning to dismantle oppression, restore dignity, and affirm the full humanity of our communities. We build “power with” rather than “power over,” practicing shared leadership, collective care, and solidarity with those most impacted.

Wholeness, Interconnection & Collective Wellbeing

We nurture transformation across mind, body, and spirit through economies of care grounded in generosity, abundance, and interdependence. Rooted in relationship with the Earth, each other, and the more-than-human world, we cultivate collective wellness and strengthen the interconnected web of life.

Our Work

Since 2016, Sacred Roots has woven healing and learning rooted in the cultural traditions of Black, Indigenous, Asian, and other communities of color. Our work is deeply embodied and grounded in the lived experiences and ancestral wisdom of those most impacted by systemic oppression. We believe that those closest to the pain must also be closest to the power of transformation—and that both what we teach and how we hold space must reflect the wisdom, values, and realities of our people.

Through individual and group offerings, we resource grassroots leaders, educators, organizers, and institutions with practices that nurture healing, build resilience, and strengthen collective power.

Our offerings include:

Healing Justice Workshops — Embodied, experiential learning circles grounded in BIPOC cultural practices and anti-oppression frameworks. Through seminars, workshops, and retreats, participants relearn truthful histories, reconnect with ancestral traditions, and recover tools to transform systems of harm into systems of care.
Healing Justice Sanctuary — One-on-one healing sessions led by practitioners trained in ancestral modalities such as Traditional Asian Medicine, Curanderismo, Temazcal, Reiki, Pranic Healing, Qigong, Astrology, Full Spectrum Doulaship, Massage Therapy, Sound and Movement, Poetry Therapy, and Restorative Justice. These sessions equip movement leaders and those impacted by trauma with wellness tools to support personal and collective liberation.
Ancestral Healing School — A learning community dedicated to the responsible, reciprocal practice of Indigenous Healing Arts. Through mentorship with lineage wisdom keepers and peer-to-peer circles, the school nurtures integrity, accountability, and intercultural respect among movement-based healers, ensuring these sacred practices are carried forward with care and depth.
