In 1927, the very first Alaska state flag was raised over the Jesse Lee Home for Children in Seward, Alaska--later to become the agency we know today as AK Child & Family. Benny Benson, a 13 year old student at the Home, had won the contest for a flag design to represent Alaska Territory. His famous creation of 8 stars of gold on a field of blue still flies to this day.

Sunday, July 9th, 2023 will mark the 31st Alaska Flag Day Celebration at AK Child & Family--a chance for us to celebrate the potential of every student in our care. This event is open to the public and free for children and families receiving services through our programs. From 5:30 – 8:30PM, up to 2,000 attendees enjoy food, live music, ice cream, face painting, lawn games and more. Proceeds benefit the Mike MacDonald Partnership in Treatment Fund, which ensures that families in need of our services will not be turned away due to inability to pay.
