Periods don’t stop in times of crisis—but for millions of women and girls, access to period products does.

Every month, more than 500 million women and girls around the world lack access to the menstrual products they need. Period poverty is a global crisis that impacts education, health, and dignity.

Sub-Saharan Africa: Up to 75% of girls cannot access or afford clean menstrual materials, forcing many to rely on unsafe alternatives such as old clothes, cotton wool, or toilet paper.
South Asia: Many girls receive little or no menstrual education before their first period, and the lack of supplies leads to widespread school absences with long-term consequences.
Middle East & North Africa (MENA): In conflict zones like Gaza and Syria, humanitarian emergencies make period products nearly impossible to obtain. Women and girls often resort to using tent pieces or other unsafe materials to manage their periods.
Latin America: In Mexico, 56% of adolescents and menstruating individuals have no access to free menstrual products in schools or workplaces. In Argentina, 50% of women report limiting purchases due to economic hardship, while 80% have changed their menstrual hygiene practices in the past year.
Europe: In the UK, around 1 in 10 girls has been unable to afford menstrual products at some point.
United States: Nearly 1 in 4 students who menstruate has missed school because they did not have access to period products.
Humanitarian Emergencies Globally: More than 70% of women report lacking access to menstrual supplies when displaced or living through crisis.

At the Fihri Foundation, we respond wherever dignity is at risk. To date, we’ve distributed sustainable period products in 18 countries—from women’s shelters in the U.S. to survivors of wildfires in Los Angeles, hurricanes in Florida, and devastating disasters abroad. We’ve delivered dignity to women and girls in Gaza, Türkiye, and Syria following war and earthquakes, and to Bangladesh and Pakistan after catastrophic floods.

Now through Summer 2026, we are raising funds to distribute 1 million period products locally and globally through the 1 Million Period Product Palooza. Products will go directly to organizations requesting support for women and girls in need.
