OUR MISSION

Wild Roots is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to protecting the wild places and incredible stories woven into the Appalachian Mountains, a vital wildlife corridor spanning across 14 states. We are committed to environmental stewardship by preserving wild land, protecting our waterways, creating community food forests, and educating our next generation of young stewards.

OUR IMPACT

No. 1 WILDERNESS CONSERVATION

Preserving the land that sustains wildlife.
Our Wilderness Conservation Initiative protects and restores the Appalachian corridor by preserving wild lands and the ecosystems that depend on them. Each project supports biodiversity, strengthens communities, and honors regional heritage.

No. 2 THE APPALACHIAN FOOD TRAIL

Fighting hunger through the land and its bounty.

In an effort to combat food insecurity, our team is working to create an Appalachian Food Trail across the region. Native orchards and gardens are being planted at public parks, community centers, and local schools to help communities along the AT thrive.

No. 3 LITTLE SPROUTS

The future of environmental stewardship.

Our Little Sprouts Initiative connects the next generation of explorers with nature while building curiosity, confidence, and respect for the wild. Through community days and school programs, children learn wildlife identification, trail safety, and Appalachian history.

No. 4 FUTURE NATURE CENTERS

Creating gateways to adventure and environmental learning.

Our future Wild Roots Nature Centers will be home to conservation, wildlife education, and trail adventures. Each center will host workshops, scout programs, and accessible trails that celebrate the natural and cultural heritage along the Appalachian Trail.
