📚 A Library Created by Students, for Students

It started with a simple question: “Why don’t we have a library?”

Now, students are leading the effort to build one.

SMART currently does not have a dedicated library or independent reading space, despite students’ strong desire for greater access to books. This need is especially important for multilingual learners and students working to strengthen foundational reading skills.

This project will create SMART’s first-ever high school library, a student-centered literacy hub designed to support literacy growth, belonging, and college readiness. The library will be housed within a literacy classroom, creating a multi-functional space where students can engage in independent reading, literacy instruction, collaboration, and academic support throughout the school day.

From the design of the space to the books on the shelves, students are helping shape every detail. But turning this vision into reality takes a community.

SMART is a public charter high school in Southwest Denver where rigor and love shape every class, every day. Teachers hold students to the highest academic expectations because they know each one can rise to meet them. Every student is enrolled in Pre-AP or AP courses, ensuring they are continuously challenged, supported, and prepared for what comes next.

We are Rocky Mountain Prep (RMP), a movement comprised of incredible educators, families, scholars, and advocates who are changing the face of public education in Colorado by democratizing college preparation and access for historically marginalized students and families. We are a network of 12 college preparatory charter schools in the Denver metro area serving more than 5,000 students as young as 12 weeks through 12th grade. Our mission is to empower students to reach their full potential through a rigorous, loving, and transformative academic experience.
