Meet Cowboy — Saved Just in Time

In November, we welcomed Cowboy, a 23-year-old Quarter Horse whose story nearly ended far too soon.

Cowboy was purchased by a local horsemanship program with hopes he could join their lesson herd. But after even light work, he began to limp, and it became clear he wasn’t recovering from an old injury as expected. His new owner, wanting the best for him, reached back out to the seller and received a refund—but due to changing circumstances, Cowboy had nowhere to go. Because he couldn’t safely be used for lessons and required ongoing care, he was scheduled for euthanasia within days.

That’s when Kimber got the call.

After an urgent consultation with our veterinarian, we stepped in to give Cowboy another chance. The funds that had been set aside for his euthanasia were instead donated toward his care, helping us welcome him safely into our rescue.

Cowboy is settling in beautifully—sweet, affectionate, and grateful for every bit of attention. With joint and gastric support, he will remain comfortable and will soon take on a special role in our therapeutic and educational programs, helping beginners learn basic horsemanship, grooming, and handling.

Cowboy’s life was nearly cut short, but thanks to quick action and community support, he now has a soft landing and a purpose once again. Now safe and settling in, he relies on daily supplements to stay comfortable.
