The Scituate Salt Marsh Stewardship Initiative (SSMSI) is a citizens' environmental group dedicated to cleaning up, restoring, and preserving the Sand Hills Salt Marsh as well as the 1400 other acres of salt marsh in Scituate, MA. We started our volunteer group in September 2022 and have been working tirelessly to bring attention to the plight of Scituate's salt marshes. Your support could help us 1) fund the removal of invasive species that have taken over so many of our marshes, 2) secure tidal monitoring for marsh health, 3) promote optimal operation and maintenance of the tide gate system to ensure consistent tidal inundation, 4) oppose development that compromises flood control and threatens the stability of the Sand Hills Salt Marsh, plus numerous other projects.

Coastal neighborhoods like Scituate, MA depend on salt marshes for flood control. The many marshes in our town hold massive amounts of flood water, keeping it from our homes. Salt marshes also have a huge effect on climate change. They hold large amounts of carbon in their soils and biomass, potentially storing it for thousands of years, thus reducing global warming.

Protecting salt marshes protects all of us. Thank you in advance for your tax-deductible donation.
