RVA Rapid Transit educates, organizes, and advocates for frequent and far-reaching transit in the Richmond region

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit championing the cause for public transportation in RVA. We have three pillars: More Buses, More Places, Dignified Places to Wait, and Elevating Rider Voices. This giving Tuesday, we ask that you help support our vital advocacy in the region, helping address not only issues with public transportation in Richmond, but also the intersections with climate, equity, economic development, and racial justice.

State of Transit Report

Our 2nd State of Transit Report has been successful beyond imagination, shaping the public's view on public transportation here in Richmond and gaining press across various news outlets at the local and state levels. Help us create the next report by donating today.

More Buses, More Places

We have identified 13 corridors that need 15 minute frequency or better, but only two are currently at that level today. Help us fight for a frequent and far-reaching transit system as laid out by our 2040 Transit Vision.

The Rider's Voice

Oftentimes the decision makers don’t fully incorporate the input of bus riders. We’re changing that, canvassing across Richmond and bringing their voices directly to the GRTC board and beyond, thanks to our charismatic & talented Transit Ambassadors Diana, Sarah, and Stephanie.

Mobility University

Mobility University has now graduated it's 3rd cohort, bringing us to a total of 44 graduates since we started last fall. Help us provide valuable education & tools for bus riders and advocates to successfully advocate for better public transportation across Richmond.

Saving Zero Fare

With your help, we are advocating diligently to hold our local officials accountable to their promises of free bus fares. We succeeded in 2022 and 2023, but we will need your help to advocate for a permanent Zero-Fare transit system.

The Better Bus Stop Program

Last year at this time, 55 bus stops had been adopted. That number has since doubled, thanks in part to supporters like you. Help us keep up the momentum by donating today, so we can strive to keep every bus stop in good and clean condition.

Transit Talks

Our monthly webinar series features a multitude of topics across public transportation, from Bus Shelter Bureaucracy to providing the first public panel for GRTC's newest CEO, Sheryl Adams. Other topics have includes Transit & The Social Determinants of Health, and a rider comment listening session. Donate today so we can keep hosting these valuable webinars.

Bus Rider Canvassing

Our transit ambassadors can often be found canvassing bus stops, doing event outreach, gathering valuable feedback, and helping folks fill out under-publicized surveys. They also chat with riders, learning about important issues from those who use transit the most. Donate today so we can continue to fund our Transit Ambassador program.

Research & Policy

Programs & Comms Manager Richard Hankins & Research Fellow Diana Hall have spearheaded our researchefforts this past year, from deep dives on Zero-Fare to investigating why it's too dang hard to get a bus shelter installed in most places in Virginia.
