My family has a long history of surviving cancer, and that history is exactly why I'm walking this September.
My name is Dalilah, and I'm a 17-year-old senior at Tech Valley High School. I'm passionate about learning, about growing and about being your true, iconic self. In my free time, you'll find me reading comics, watching TV, writing or thinking through my next big idea (Human Resources, if you're curious. I like people). I'm a registered lifeguard. I collect pig stuffed animals. My favorite color is red. I never know what to say when someone asks for a fun fact, but ask me about any of those, and I could talk for hours.
Here's what I do know how to talk about: cancer.
I was raised understanding what cancer means. It was a near-constant part of my childhood, woven into holidays, hospital waiting rooms and quiet conversations I wasn't supposed to overhear. I watched aunts grow weaker. I watched hair fall out. I watched my family hold on to each other and to hope, over and over again.
That's why I'm walking. I'm walking so other kids won't have to watch what I watched without support behind them. I'm walking for the families who need the means and the resources to fight, not just the will to. I'm walking for a future where medicine moves faster than the disease and where no family faces it alone.
I joined Rock Your Style in 2025 as part of the Hype Squad, and this year I'm stepping onto the runway to turn that same energy into impact. Every dollar raised helps the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation support families walking the same road mine has walked for generations.
