Service has always been a big part of who I am. As a fourth-generation volunteer firefighter, I’ve seen firsthand the courage, sacrifice and selflessness that come with running toward danger when everyone else is running away.
That’s why I’m walking in Rock Your Style in honor of the firefighters, police officers and first responders who have faced cancer as a result of dangerous exposures encountered throughout their years of service. I’m walking for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, for those currently fighting and for the families standing beside them every step of the way.
To me, supporting first responders shouldn’t end when the call is over, or the gear gets hung up. These men and women deserve continued awareness, advocacy and support long after their service ends.
My connection to cancer also extends into my professional life. I’ve spent nearly two decades working in the oncology and diagnostic space, where I’ve had the privilege of seeing the impact that quality cancer care can have on patients, families and communities. That experience has only strengthened my commitment to supporting those affected by this disease.
Outside of work and the firehouse, my greatest role is being dad to my two boys, ages 9 and 11. I spend as much time as I can coaching the sports they love. I also enjoy a good workout, downtime with my golden retriever Gus, catching Jukebox Rebellion and appreciating the simple things in life, including a freshly mowed lawn.
And according to my boys, one of my greatest talents is being “great at mowing lawns.”
This year, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and onto the Rock Your Style runway to honor those we’ve lost, stand behind those who continue to fight and help raise awareness for a cause that means so much to me.
