The Beacon Founder/Director Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum and AFT President Randi Weingarten hold their second open online conversation, responding the "The State of the World," focusing on the challenges of these time of adversity and the resilience we all need.

The program is live via Zoom. Contributions support The Beacon, standing for compassionate democracy and standing against cruelty, fear and despair.

Since 2008, Randi Weingarten has served as the elected president of the AFT, a union of 1.8 million educators, health care professionals, and public-service workers. For ten years prior, she headed the United Federation of Teachers, the union representing educators in New York City's public schools, and before that taught social studies at Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn, New York. Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum has dedicated her life to promoting social justice, LGBTQ+ and human rights, and progressive values within Judaism. She served for 32 years as Senior Rabbi of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah in New York City, the largest LGBTQ+ synagogue in the world — for people of all sexual identities and genders — where she is now Senior Rabbi Emerita. She serves as Director of The Beacon, a project of Union Theological Seminary. The BBC named her one of its 100 Women of 2024, and Newsweek named her one of the 50 most influential rabbis in America. President Biden appointed Rabbi Kleinbaum a Commissioner to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.
