What happened

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Chocó, Colombia, damaging Indigenous schools across the region.

ASOREWA’s initial assessment reports structural cracks, collapsed walls, damaged roofs, and classrooms that can no longer be safely used. In some communities, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed as access and communications remain challenging.

An Indigenous-led response

This campaign was created in direct response to a formal request from ASOREWA, the Indigenous organization representing Embera Dobida, Katío, Chamí, and Tule Peoples in Chocó.

Land is Life is working alongside ASOREWA and affected communities so that recovery priorities are identified by the people who know their communities and schools best.
