Lovely Lila Sheep is a Cheviot cross who came to us in May 2019. She's the proud mom of Charlotte and the late Shaun. They were born at a farm in Carver, MA, where the farmer thought Lila had mastitis, so the twins were bottle-fed. Since this farm mainly trained expensive sheep dogs, they needed sheep that weren’t too friendly with humans. Because of their socialization, Shaun, Charlotte, and Lila were all slated for auction.

Luckily, they came to Unity Farm Sanctuary instead, and we soon discovered Lila's "mastitis" was actually a huge tumor. We took her to Tufts Veterinary Hospital, where she underwent a double mastectomy. After months of care, Lila fully healed, and the tumor was benign. Now, Lila and her daughter Charlotte get to live out their days happily with us.

Here, our sheep are cherished individuals. In the wool industry, sheep are often culled when they're old or ill. At Unity, they’re treated with love and respect, free to enjoy life with their families.
