Residents for M. Esther Sherman is a community-led committee formed for one simple reason: we believe Steele County voters deserve a choice for County Attorney.

This is not Esther's campaign. It is ours.

We are neighbors, friends, and community members who believe experience, integrity, and a commitment to justice matter. We came together because we believe M. Esther Sherman has demonstrated those qualities throughout her legal career, and we wanted to ensure voters have the opportunity to consider her as a write-in candidate.

Meet M. Esther Sherman

Esther's career has been built on public service.

She has served as a law clerk, Assistant Steele County Attorney, and Public Defender for Minnesota's Third Judicial District. Her experience spans nearly every stage of the criminal justice system, giving her a unique perspective on how decisions affect victims, defendants, law enforcement, and our community.

As an Assistant Steele County Attorney, Esther:

Prosecuted serious felony cases involving victims.
Managed the county's juvenile caseload.
Worked with local schools to develop Steele County's truancy program.
Served as co-chair of the Restorative Justice Practices Committee.
Successfully prosecuted multiple felony jury trials.
Represented Steele County in tax court matters.

Earlier in her career, Esther served as a law clerk for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee's Tax Team in Washington, D.C., before earning an advanced law degree in taxation.

Her commitment to the community extends beyond the courtroom. Since 2021, she has helped organize and promote Owatonna's annual Promoting Peace Conference, serving as a speaker and moderator on topics including public safety, mental health, restorative justice, and de-escalation.

Throughout conversations with our committee, one theme has remained constant: public safety comes first.

Esther believes the role of a County Attorney is not simply to win cases—it is to pursue justice with integrity, fairness, and accountability.

She has spoken about the importance of making charging decisions based on evidence, protecting victims, respecting constitutional rights, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring the justice system works for everyone.

That balanced approach is why we believe she is the right person to serve Steele County.
