Dear friends,

Last month, my older brother Steve passed away.

Steve was born in 1948, the same year the State of Israel was founded, and Israel shaped his life deeply. He volunteered on a kibbutz in 1966, and when the Six Day War broke out the following year, he slept for three nights at JFK Airport until he secured a flight back to Israel, determined to support his kibbutz while its members were called up to fight.

Years later, Steve helped build Jerusalem’s Ramat Eshkol neighborhood, not far from the Old City, taking part in the fulfillment of Psalms 147:2: “The Lord builds Jerusalem; He gathers the exiles of Israel.”

Professionally, Steve believed Israel’s future depended on developing alternatives to oil. He earned a master’s degree in renewable energy and spent more than thirty years as Vice President of Renewable Energy at Central New Jersey Power and Light.

Steve was a guiding light in my life. Whenever either of us crossed oceans, we made time for each other. I miss him deeply.

Alongside this personal loss, Root Source is facing a significant challenge.

While we are grateful for the support of more than 75 donors in 2025 and proud of what we accomplished together, several of our main funders experienced a difficult financial year. As a result, our operating budget was reduced by nearly 80 percent.

Root Source exists to build bridges between Jews and Christians rooted in mutual respect, shared faith, and genuine love. At a time when people are increasingly withdrawing from those who think differently, we are guided by the words of Malachi 2:10:

“Do we not all have one Father? Has not one God created us? Why do we betray one another, brother against brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?”

When Bob O’Dell and I founded Root Source, we believed deeply that reconciliation was stirring in the hearts of millions. We knew this work was not only necessary, but timely.

Today, about 35 committed partners stand with us through monthly recurring gifts. Some give $10 a month, others $25 or $50, and one or two generous leaders give $100 or even $250 each month. Their faithfulness sustains everything we do.

To continue our mission, we are seeking one hundred additional partners who will commit to a monthly recurring donation of $10, $25, $50, $100, or any amount you feel led to give. Because of the reduced budget, I have personally taken a 70 percent cut in salary. I share this not for sympathy, but to underscore how deeply we believe this work must continue.
