Roy Wilkins on the Vineyard: An SQPA Porch Party brings the spirit of Southeast Queens to Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard for an intimate summer gathering rooted in community, culture, and purpose.

Operated by the Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA), Roy Wilkins Park is more than a green space — it is a vital community hub and living tribute to civil rights leader Roy Wilkins. As NYC Parks’ oldest nonprofit partnership and the only Black-led park partnership in the city, SQPA blends stewardship of the land with programs that uplift children, families, and seniors through education, wellness, workforce development, arts, and environmental initiatives.

As SQPA celebrates its 50th anniversary year, this gathering offers a meaningful opportunity to honor five decades of service while helping shape the future of our work.

Inspired by the tradition of porch parties, where stories are shared, connections are made, and movements begin, this relaxed yet refined afternoon will bring together changemakers, community advocates, and culture lovers in support of SQPA’s mission and future.

Guests will enjoy curated conversation, summer bites, wine, and music while celebrating the legacy of Roy Wilkins Park and SQPA’s continued commitment to preserving green space, investing in youth, and centering Black excellence in civic life.
