IMPORTANT RESCHEDULING UPDATE:

Due to the increasingly poor weather conditions (the irony of it being Climate Week isn't lost on us!), we have decided to cancel all parts of our multi-pronged SaturBAY celebration on Saturday, Sept. 26th. This includes the shoreline clean up, scavenger hunt + daylighting walk, and cookout.

We are rescheduling SaturBAY for a different day, so stay tuned for more details and help us spread the word letting folks know!

ABOUT US

Guardians of Flushing Bay (GoFB) is a critical steward of Flushing Waterways' (Flushing Bay and Flushing Creek) challenged, yet recovering ecosystems. Formed in 2015 as a coalition of dragon boaters, GoFB has a shared vision of healthy and equitably accessible Flushing Waterways cared for by a network of local stewards. We accomplish our goals through grassroots organizing, community science and stewardship, habitat restoration, community planning, and free, family-friendly programming. In all our work, we strive to connect and engage local watershed communities with the greatest barriers to accessing a healthy environment.

ABOUT SATURBAY

SaturBAY is GoFB’s annual end-of-season celebration! Our 2026 theme is “Making it Happen: Manifesting A Field Station for Flushing Bay,” where we will come together to imagine radical, inclusive, and equitable futures for the Flushing Bay waterfront and celebrate a floating field station coming to the Bay in 2027!

Since our start, GoFB has fought for a publicly, equitably accessible waterfront with a community boathouse, field station, and gathering space that is resilient for all. As GoFB prepares to build stage one of that vision—a floating field station on a custom vessel—we want to bring our beloved community together to celebrate this moment and continue to dream big! Here’s what to expect:

Daylighting Walk + Scavenger Hunt (10:30am-1pm)

Join GoFB and Holes in the Wall Collective for a SaturBAY and Climate Week-themed scavenger hunt and daylighting walk! Learn more about it and register here. Please note that participants must register separately for the daylighting walk using the provided hyperlink. Signing up for the SaturBAY cookout on Givebutter does not guarantee a spot for the walk.

SaturBAY Cookout (1pm-3pm)

Join our family-friendly cookout with activities and workshops led by Precious Plastic NYC, Materials for the Arts, and artist Niceli Portugal! The event also features live music from HONK Family Band, food from Bstro and Treat Yourself Jerk, more! Get your tickets and register for the in-person cookout right here on this Givebutter page.

All activities and food are FREE with registration. Use this map for help getting to the FMCP public boat launch and/or these directions if walking or biking from Mets-Willets Point and Flushing Main Street.

ABOUT THE ONLINE FUNDRAISER

The SaturBAY online fundraiser offers a virtual way of supporting our work. GoFB has always been sustained by our local communities, park users, and paddlers. Whether donating to our work, sampling the water quality, organizing for land use equity, installing oyster cages, or cleaning up the shoreline—we could not take care of Flushing Waterways without you. Consider donating today!
