About South Central LAMP

South Central Los Angeles Ministry Project (South Central LAMP) was established in response to the 1992 Los Angeles civil unrest by a coalition of eight congregations of Catholic sisters. Moved by the community's struggles, the sisters engaged directly with residents, asking how they could best support their recovery and growth. They heard a clear call from mothers: the need to strengthen parenting skills, improve English literacy, and prepare their children for school and future success.

Through close collaboration with the community, South Central LAMP was born and developed family-centered programs that have evolved to meet diverse needs, including:

Parenting Programs: Empowering women to advocate for themselves and their families.
English as a Second Language (ESL): Building language skills for meaningful integration into the community.
Childcare, Preschool, and Pre-Kindergarten: Offering early literacy and school-readiness programs where mothers can confidently attend classes, knowing their children are nurtured in a safe, engaging environment.
Health, Wellness, and Financial Literacy Seminars: Providing critical tools for personal and family growth.
Family Advocacy: Connecting families with vital community resources.
Community Food Distribution: Operated by South Central LAMP graduates to address food insecurity.

All programs are offered free of charge to ensure accessibility for the families we serve.
