Red King is a horse well known in the Thoroughbred Racing industry! Foaled on Feb.26, 2014 and KY bred, Red King is headed back to his home state with his new career start as a Freestyle & competitive trail horse. These are just two of the several disciplines he will be performing in this week!

His first race was on Oct.8, 2016 and his last race was on Oct. 8, 2022. (Yes both on the 8th day of October!)

With a total of 43 starts out the gate, this superstar had an incredible racing career and his loving owners made the best decision to retire him while he was still at his prime! According to Equibase records, Red King's total Earnings were $586,555 and earned the title "Mutiple Graded Stakes Winner" overall!

Upon their decision of retirement, the owners reached out to CARMA - California Retirement Management Account, and CARMA chose to place Red King with SCRAF because they wanted a "protected loving" customized development program for this special horse to find his next preferred career.

Red King arrived at SCRAF in the end of March 2023 where he spent the first couple months of his track retirement relaxing in pasture & getting to "just be a horse". After some decompression time,he settled in and became very interested in visiting with people. Kiersti spent alot of time just playing with him at night when all was quiet and they developed an understanding and respect for each other quickly. They began to explore his new surroundings & that's when we learned he loved going out on trails!

He loved working so much that every day, he picked up exactly where we left off and that's when it became clear he was ready to be entered into the TB Makeover! Per Kiersti, "He clearly stated that he wasn't ready for FULL retirement! He loves to have a job!"

So, plans were made, entries were submitted, Coggin's test & Health Certificates were performed, shipper arrangements were made, as well as Kiersti began taking Red King out on lots of fieldtrips and training to prepare for this new adventure.

As they are headed off to Kentucky, we would like you to join us in following their adventure as they share their progress on social media. But most importantly we hope you can join us in person for Red King's welcome home party when he arrives back to SCR!
