The Somerville Travel Mentorship aims to invest in SHS alumni with big dreams.

Our work supports 18-28 year olds who face financial barriers to travel. We look for trip proposals that will enrich an awardee’s life and have positive ripple effects on their family, friends, and community. We aim to support travel experiences that embody the ideas of curiosity, learning, connection, and adventure.

The Mentorship is coordinated by SHS alumni and local youth worker Sean Post. Sean has been working with Somerville teens for a decade through The Center for Teen Empowerment and Creative by Nature. In addition to Sean, a collective of SHS alumni with backgrounds in community work will lead our Selection Committee and support programming.

We are excited to open our first applications and to launch our pilot program with a small cohort of mentees this Summer.

The aim of the mentorship is to support the travel, lodging, food, and activities for an awardee’s trip, along with providing trip planning, grant applications, and logistics support.

This is a true community fund, where money goes toward a Somerville with more agency, more adventure, and in the long term, more ideas and empathy. If you're life has been positively impacted by travel, this is a chance to invest in that same experience for others.
