The story behind the golf outing:

The Susan Mast ALS Foundation Golf Outing began with a simple but powerful purpose. In 2014, Susan Mast was diagnosed with ALS, and her husband, Ross Mast, set out to raise funds to support respite care for individuals and families living with the disease. His vision became a reality in 2015 with the first annual golf outing.

When the Susan Mast ALS Foundation was established in 2016, proceeds from the outing were dedicated to supporting SMAF’s respite care program, directly impacting families affected by ALS. After Ross’s passing in 2018, John Coaker and Mark Howard stepped forward to carry on the event in honor of the Mast family and the ALS community. Through their leadership and dedication, the outing raised more than $243,000 over the years, including a record-breaking $43,000 at the 10th anniversary event.

As we enter the 11th annual Golf Outing, a new group of committed supporters (Allyn Lebster, Colleen Kondratek, Craig Shutich, Greg Keane, and Tim Koster) has stepped in to continue this meaningful tradition. United by a love of the game of golf and a personal connection to ALS, they are motivated to carry this event forward. Together, they remain dedicated to honoring the legacy of the Mast family while raising critical funds to support families living with ALS in West Michigan.
