St. Mary Advocates is a Hoboken-based, volunteer-driven 501(c)3 charitable organization founded in 1966 at the former St. Mary Hospital.

Our mission is to advance community health and education. Today, our impact is powered by 39 members and 45 active volunteers.

Our fully volunteer-run Thrift Store, established in 1976 and now located at 536 Garden Street, is our primary engine of fundraising. Open Wednesday through Saturday, it directs 100% of net proceeds to outreach, scholarships, and charitable grants. We further amplify our impact through pop-ups, “Sip & Thrift” events, and our signature annual thrifted Fashion Show.

Since launching our scholarship program in 1968, we’ve awarded scholarships to over 140 New Jersey students pursuing health science majors, distributing over $275K in funding. In 2025 alone, we reinvested over $226K into the community through scholarships, grants, sponsorships, and targeted fundraising efforts that promote health and well-being for all people, regardless of race, religion or nationality.

For 60 years, we’ve turned volunteer service into real, measurable impact.
