Beth Boily's Story

When tragedy struck in 2001 and I became a single mom, the Y was there for me and my 3 year old child, enveloping us in loving care. My daughter stayed for the full day kindergarten (see photo of her graduation below), the before and after school, and competed on the gymnastics team. When the trains failed me, or the snow fell, or power went out, the Y assured me that my child would be cared for until I made it home from the city, alleviating all my single-mom fears. While I had the financial resources to afford the Y daycare and programs, I have known local families who have run into challenges: illness, job loss, etc. and I have assured them the Y will take care of their needs, regardless. The Y is an important key to the SOMA community, and I am grateful to every staff member who makes this happen, year after year.
