Who are we?

The NYSYLC is the first undocumented youth-led organization in New York.

Since 2007, we have worked to empower immigrant youth through leadership development, grassroots organizing, educational advancement, and self-expression.

Our goal is to give undocumented youth the tools and space to organize and create change in our communities.

What is Undocu Academy?

Undocu Academy is a a 1-year peer-led program that supports undocumented high schoolers in postsecondary planning and understanding immigrant and social issues. Our cohort consists of 8-12 high school seniors.

Students have 1-on-1 support via weekly check-ins, where students can share their concerns in an intimate setting through conversations, phone calls, or in-person meetings.
The academy offers students extensive guidance for the college process by hosting college access workshops, campus tours, and support with college applications- including college essays and resumes. Students are also supported through their journey with financial aid by extensive scholarship research, navigating the New York State Dream Act, and other state funds.
The academy provides political education workshops that helps build civic awareness, understanding their rights, and develop leadership skills.
The academy helps students practice public speaking and showcase their learning in creative ways.
Students gain self-advocacy skills while pursuing their personal and professional goals.

Within the Academy, students receive a $750 stipend that is divided in two parts of academy completion. Additionally, we offer students dinner per academy session and paid transportation for colleges tours.

As this year cohort comes to an end, we need your support to help fund the next generation of dreamers.

This year, Undocu Academy will be hosting a "Story of Self" Event on May 1st, location will be shared after you purchase a ticket.
