In Person

Join us for Science on Tap, Thursday, January 2nd at 6:30pm in the Cellar at the FLBC Pubhouse. Our speaker is Ted Steiner with DHA Avalanche Safety. His talk will be, “20 Years of the BNSF Railway Avalanche Safety Program.” Richard (Ted) Steiner has been working in the avalanche safety arena as a practitioner since the mid-80s. In 2005 he began working with David Hamre & Associates as an avalanche safety consultant and his first task was to assist BNSF Railway with developing and operating an industry-standard industrial-based avalanche safety program. Now, 20 years later, Ted, who continues to work as an avalanche safety consultant for BNSF Railway, is presenting, on January 2nd, 2025 about the program’s geographic location, history of large magnitude avalanches in the program area, how the program started, and program day-to-day operations. Please note: No food will be available downstairs in the Cellar, please come early and eat upstairs prior to the presentation. Presentations start at 6:30 pm at the Flathead Lake Brewing Company. Brought to you by the Flathead Lakers, Flathead Lake Biological Station, and the Flathead Lake Brewing Co.
