We want to tell you about Javier - the man in the beat-up truck who made Shed Boy’s rescue possible.

When we first saw the video of Javier gently calling Shed Boy over and loading him into his old truck, it made us cry. We thought he was the rancher who had found Shed Boy, but he’s not. He’s just someone with the biggest heart who helps a street feeder transport dogs because her car is broken down.

Javier lives without running water or electricity. He works for someone who pays him only $100 a week and takes advantage of him. His truck windows don’t roll down, the AC is broken, and now the truck is smoking and barely running. In Texas heat, this makes transporting dogs nearly impossible.

When we needed to relocate Shed Boy to a proper placement, we had to hire a different driver because Javier’s truck conditions were too dangerous in the heat. That’s when we learned his story. The street feeder told us: “He hasn’t gone to get a quote because he can’t afford the repair, but I can definitely ask him to get a quote.”

This broke our hearts. Here’s a man who has absolutely nothing, yet he still shows up to help save dogs. While we all say,“Why didn’t someone take them?” we don’t realize that person may barely have a car, electricity, or even running water.

Javier was embarrassed when we asked permission to share his story, but he agreed because he understands that sometimes accepting help allows you to help others even more.
