STAR PLUS SCHOLARSHIP TRANSFER FUND

The Star Plus Scholarship Transfer Fund supports providing equal opportunities to education for City Colleges of Chicago students setting them on a pathway towards upward mobility. The Star Plus Scholarship Fund provides financial support to City Colleges of Chicago r graduates that maintained a B average or better and who are admitted to four-year higher education institutions.

Star Plus Transfer Scholars receive a $5,000 scholarship over two years, ensuring more students from all economic backgrounds can access a viable pathway to higher education in a four-year institution with the objective of pursuing their bachelor’s degree.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his wife, Amy Rule, founded the Star Plus Scholarship Fund in January 2021 with an initial personal gift of $100,000. In addition to their seed gift, former Mayor Emanuel and Ms. Rule intend to make a similarly sized annual gift while seeking support from other individual donors and family foundations. They have set the ambitious goal to raise support for 1,000 scholarships, or up to $5 million and invite others to join this important endeavor.

Students have been struggling to meet their academic, career, and life goals. With your contribution, they will have the means to continue on to four-year institutions and ultimately to a more economically secure future.

SUCCESS STORIES

This February, twenty-one Star Scholars were awarded the Star Plus Transfer Scholarships to pursue their bachelor’s degree at one of City Colleges’ four-year transfer partners. Each of the 21 recipients will be awarded $5,000 for two years ($2,500 per year) to use at their transfer destination. Ruth Flores was one of them. What her story.
