Where was women’s health 35 years ago? Where do we want women’s health to be in 35 years? The Society for Women's Health Research resides at the intersection of these points in time.

Thirty-five years ago, women were not required to be included in medical research, and there wasn’t consensus across the medical field that it was important to study women’s health.

Since the Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR) was founded in 1990, SWHR has been the national thought leader dedicated to advancing women’s health and promoting research on sex differences to optimize women’s health across the lifespan. SWHR played an integral role in helping stand up the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health (1990), the HHS Office on Women’s Health (1991), and the FDA Office of Women’s Health (1994). We’ve published more than 20 toolkits, 40 fact sheets, and 440 blogs. We’ve worked closely with over 345 experts to gather tens of roundtables, host over 65 hours of webinars and produce materials for 27 unique topics in women’s health that differently, disproportionately, or exclusively affect women.
