ABOUT US

Guardians of Flushing Bay (GoFB) is a critical steward of Flushing Waterways' (Flushing Bay and Flushing Creek) challenged, yet recovering ecosystems. Formed in 2015 as a coalition of dragon boaters, GoFB has a shared vision of healthy and equitably accessible Flushing Waterways cared for by a network of local stewards. We accomplish our goals through grassroots organizing, community science and stewardship, habitat restoration, community planning, and free, family-friendly programming. In all our work, we strive to connect and engage local watershed communities with the greatest barriers to accessing a healthy environment.

ABOUT SATURBAY

SaturBAY is GoFB’s annual end-of-season celebration! Our 2025 theme is “Going All the Way for the Bay” where multiple neighborhood art processions will lead us to the beautiful, but hard-to-access Flushing Bay.

This year, access to Flushing Bay and a healthy, resilient future has only become more difficult. New York City condemned Pier 1, a critical access point used by generations of boaters within our dragon boating community. The federal government slashed FEMA funding, which we need to manage intensified inland flooding in Northern Queens. NY State legislators gave away 78 acres of public parkland to Queens Future, Steve Cohen’s firm, for their Vegas-style casino project. There has never been a more important time to show up for our public parkland, waterways, and communities!

All activities and food are FREE with registration. Use this map for help getting to the FMCP public boat launch and/or these directions if walking or biking from Mets-Willets Point and Flushing Main Street.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD PROCESSIONS (12PM - 2PM)

From 12pm to 2pm, we're hosting four neighborhood art processions as ways to guide people to Flushing Bay. The tours are starting at different points: Downtown Flushing, East Elmhurst, and Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Led by artists, activists, stewards, and organizers within the community, the walks will conclude at the FMCP Kayak/Canoe Launch for SaturBAY, GoFB's FREE cookout and celebration of Flushing Waterways!

ABOUT THE COOKOUT (2PM - 4PM)

From 2-4pm, join us at the FMCP Kayak/Canoe Launch for a FREE cookout, art workshops, and celebration. The cookout features tasty food by Nhà Mình, music by Funkrust Brass Band, and art workshops by Emily Garfield and Materials for the Arts.

The SaturBAY online fundraiser offers a virtual way of supporting our work. GoFB has always been sustained by our local communities, park users, and paddlers.
