American Legion Post 397 has been a cornerstone of the Monterey Park community since 1932, serving veterans, their families, and local residents for over 90 years.

For decades, our Post has remained open and self-sustaining by renting out our hall for community events—helping us pay utilities, maintenance, insurance, and property taxes without relying on constant fundraising.

What happened

During the COVID-19 pandemic, hall rentals came to a complete stop. Like many community organizations, our primary source of income disappeared overnight. While we worked to keep the Post intact and support our members, property taxes from those years went unpaid.

As a result, Los Angeles County has issued notice that the property is eligible for a county tax sale if the balance is not resolved by October 2026.

Why we’re raising funds now

The outstanding property tax balance is approximately $19,100. We are raising $19,500 to ensure all taxes, penalties, interest, and processing fees are fully covered so the county sale process is stopped completely.

Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward resolving the tax obligation.

Why this matters

If the Post were lost:

Veterans would lose a historic place of support and fellowship
Community programs and gatherings would end
A 90-year legacy of service would disappear
