The International Center of Photography is thrilled to announce the Schoenfeld-Capa Scholarship for Concerned Photography, which provides $10,000 toward tuition for the 2026 academic year to one student enrolled in ICP’s One-Year Certificate Program in Documentary Practice: Visual Storytelling Online.

Created to honor ICP’s founder Cornell Capa’s vision of Concerned Photography, a practice rooted in empathy, ethical storytelling, and social engagement, the Schoenfeld-Capa Scholarship also pays tribute to long-time ICP Board member Pat Schoenfeld, whose dedication has sustained this vision for generations of photographers.

In 1974, Pat began working with Cornell Capa to establish the International Center of Photography. As a founding staff member of ICP, she launched the book store and the publications department, began the membership and intern programs, and assisted with public relations and corporate memberships. After working at ICP for eight years, she joined ABC Video Enterprises where she helped inaugurate the ARTS cable service. Upon her retirement in 1987, she joined the ICP Board of Trustees where she and other Board members helped develop ICP into the organization it is today.

The scholarship supports photographers who use their craft to foster awareness, reflection, and change. Applicants are invited to submit work that demonstrates both a distinctive visual voice and a commitment to using photography in the service of society.
