We need you to support black women by helping us open the Sergeant Tamesha Dickey Black Maternal Health Center, NJ’s first Black maternal health clinic, in East Orange, named for a local Black mama and Police Sergeant who died from inadequate perinatal care.

We have a unique opportunity to open the doors to our Black Maternal Health Center in February, but we have to raise $105,000 immediately. February is just weeks away, so we don't have a lot of time and I don't want to miss this opportunity.Would you consider sending your best gift today?

There is a huge need for a center with clinical care like ours is going to be. Current area clinics are overbooked, so mamas trying to schedule early pregnancy appointments are waitlisted and often not seen until 20+ weeks, which is deemed late initiation of care. This endangers Black mamas and their babies, who are already at high risk. For example, a Black mama we know tried to see an OBGYN in early pregnancy, but by the time they examined her at 20 weeks, she was already dilated, so she suffered an emotionally devastating pregnancy loss. Our experts feel it could have been easily prevented had she received the recommended early care she sought. To prevent such tragic fetal/infant and maternal deaths and other poor outcomes, PHEI’s new center will prioritize and center Black mamas for quick care from culturally competent providers.
