Phi Chapter is proud to partner with the Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation to raise funds for The Gabriela I. Sevilla, Esq. Scholarship - this scholarship will support a deserving student pursuing higher education in New Jersey, Maryland and Washington D.C. A student who demonstrates a strong commitment to public service and a desire to make a meaningful impact in their community while pursuing a career in government, nonprofit organizations, education, public health, social work, or other service-oriented fields. Applicants should show leadership, civic engagement, and a clear dedication to serving the public good.

Gabriela Ines Sevilla Esq. aka Aphrodite- (Line 12, #4 of 5), passed away on October 10, 2022. Born & raised in Newark, NJ, Gaby is a proud Latina, first-generation EOF graduate of Rutgers University–Newark (RU–N).

Joining LTA and Phi Chapter in 2013, she served as Chapter President & assisted Phi with being recognized at RU–N with the Outstanding Urban Community Service Award. Gaby always focused on justice for youth who experienced abuse and neglect; as part of that work, she and Phi chapter partnered with Wynona’s House Child Advocacy Center—working with Wynona’s House, Gaby created an annual Halloween costume party for children of Wynona’s House which Phi Chapter has kept alive to this day.

Along with other community service initiatives spearheaded by Gaby, this presented Phi Chapter with the 2013-2014 NJA2 Community Service award. In 2015, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration. Shortly after in 2019, she graduated from Howard University School of Law and she began her journey to create pathways to end homelessness. In 2021, Gaby joined the National Homelessness Law Center (NHLC) as part of a team launching initiatives on ending youth homelessness.

Gaby believed that one of the keys to creating change was to provide people with empathetic and humanized interactions that made them feel heard, comforted and supported. With a pure heart, no one has devoted themselves as much to show love, hope, and charity to mankind as Gaby. Phi Chapter has no words to describe the void we feel as we accept that we have lost not only one of the best in our chapter, but one of the kindest souls in this lifetime.

This scholarship is one of the many ways we at Phi plan to keep her memory and life mission alive. The opportunity to continue her legacy, to pay it forward, to make an impact as she would have done.
