The Silver Buffs Are in Year 2 of Fundraising for an Endowed Scholarship!

The Silver Buffs are in our second year of fundraising for an Endowed Scholarship! We had an incredible first year of fundraising and are incredibly grateful to all of our alumni who are helping us towards this goal. In our first year, we were able to raise $6,422 for the scholarship fund. However, we still have a few years to go to get this scholarship fully funded!

For our second year, we are also hoping to raise at least $6,000 by the end of the year. This would keep us on track to get this scholarship fully funded within 4-5 years!

Remember that even the smallest donations make a big difference! Just $5/month from each alumnus in our base would knock out our yearly goal of $6,000 easily. Or a one-time donation of $25-$100 would help us meet our goal even quicker. Invite all your friends, pool your donations, and make a huge impact!

Why are the Silver Buffs Starting an Endowment?

Great Question! For several years Silver Buffs have had the goal of starting an endowment to provide scholarships and/or travel funds for the band. The Silver Buffs already provides one scholarship per year with the help of the CUBAA. Our goal with the endowment is to have a more sustainable fund for future giving and increase the number of scholarships that we are able to provide on a yearly basis. This will be a multi-year campaign by the Silver Buffs, with the goal of raising $25,000 within 5 years. We started the process last year because the CU Foundation was about to double the minimum amount for an endowment, so it was important to jump on the lower minimum fund!

The Silver Buffs work hard to support current band members and encourage alumni engagement with the band. We've heard from Band leadership that the top priority is to raise more scholarship funds for current students. We love this goal, and know that as students additional scholarship funds were always super helpful. We want to make sure GBMB members are rewarded for their commitment to the University, and we hope the Silver Buffs Endowment is the start of more scholarships to come, all of which will help to benefit future generations of marching band students.

Does your Employer Offer a Scholarship Match?

We know that some employers may offer a scholarship matching benefit, but may not have the ability to contribute to a GiveButter campaign. If this is the case, please feel free to reach out to us directly at SilverBuffs@colorado.edu and we can discuss other options to help you get this match and contribute to the fund!
