The Sit-In Experience: Ax Handle Saturday is an immersive reenactment of a 1960 Sit-In that occurred August 27, 1960 at Woolworth's Department Store and Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville. The Experience will reenact Black students protesting at an 'All white' lunch counter. The Experience will fuse Entertainment, ‘Step’, Part Script, Improvisational Theatre and a cappella Negro music in remembrance of Ax-Handle Saturday.
The general audience will partake in a talkback/town hall on the experience and how not to repeat these atrocities from the past led by surviving participants, family members, city officials, and historians. Tentatively scheduled to appear: Edward W. Hall, Rodney Hurst, Tony Hill, and Nat Glover.
