What followed was a battle with anaplasmosis, an infection that we fought hard to overcome. However, the effects of this tick-borne illness are proving to be long-lasting and particularly challenging during these muggy months. Spirit is now experiencing painful lymphedema flare-ups, a direct consequence of the initial infection that requires ongoing antibiotics, specialized medications, and meticulous daily care to keep him comfortable.

The truth is, tick-borne diseases can have devastating and enduring impacts on equines, even after the initial infection is treated. Spirit's current struggles are a stark reminder of these lasting effects. We are dedicated to providing him with the long-term support he needs to manage his lymphedema and live a dignified life, free from unnecessary suffering.
