What supplies do Surgical Squares fund?

Surgeries require a lot of supplies. We do our best to be cost-conscious, by storing non-expired supplies at the hospital in Colombia, and purchasing what we can locally in Buga to decrease shipping costs and support the local economy. Still, our last trip, one of our largest costs in addition to the supplies were airline bag fees to get the needed supplies to Colombia.

Here is an example of the average cost of supplies the Wish Board may help fund:

Sterile surgical gown: $3-10 each
IV start kit + tubing + fluids: $5-15 per patient
1 Liter normal saline bag: $2-8 each
Sutures: $3-15 each packet; a surgical case may use anywhere from $10-50 worth of sutures
Sterile lower extremity drape: $15-30 each
Long leg cast materials: $15-40 per patient
Propofol (IV anesthetic agent): $5-20 for 100 mL vial
Plaster casting material $80-150/case

Additional checked bag fee: $50
Overweight checked bag fee: $100-150
