Laurie Carpenito's Story
On Thanksgiving Day, 2021, the unthinkable happened to my family. My 5 month old granddaughter, Aria, was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. (AMKL) She was immediately admitted through the St. Jude Affiliate clinic in Charlotte where she began her treatment. We became a St. Jude patient family. Aria and her St. Jude team fought hard for 8 months but she lost her battle on Aug. 1, 2022. I saw first hand what St. Jude does for these tiny human warriors and their families. Even though we lost our precious Aria, I will forever be thankful for St. Jude and the time they gave us with Aria.
That’s why This September, I’m joining the nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most — the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.
