Organized by California Association of Professional Scientists
Story
CAPS has been in negotiations with the State of California since January of 2020, looking to come to an agreement on a contract that appropriately values the important scientific work that State Scientists perform on a daily basis. The CAPS Bargaining Teams have utilized all appropriate bargaining processes available to them throughout these past three years.
On September 1, 2023, the CAPS membership voted 94% IN FAVOR of the CAPS Bargaining Team calling for a strike, if and when conditions warrant to do so. On September 26, 2023, the Public Employees Relations Board (PERB) formally determined that CAPS and the State of California are at an impasse in their negotiations to reach a successor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), meaning that further negotiations without a mediator present would likely prove futile. Mediation is the impasse resolution procedure granted to CAPS under the Dills Act.
Should circumstances warrant, the CAPS Bargaining Team is willing to utilize all tools available to our union to ensure fair pay and beenfits. This is why we're establishing a Hardship Fund, and asking for your support. Should a strike be called for by CAPS, the union will be prepared to support our members.
