Dear Friends of BFREE,

Due to the continued impact of the pandemic, we have limited visitation scheduled for 2022. We estimate earning about one-quarter of the revenue we would have received from student groups and travelers in a normal year. This is half of the revenue that we projected just three months ago. Further, when we look at our situation realistically, we believe some of the currently scheduled visitations will also cancel.

This means we are fundraising for nearly our entire operating budget for another year. True to form, we look at this as both a challenge and an opportunity.

Several committed donors recognized that having a matched fundraiser in 2020 was the key to reaching our goal to cover our operating expenses, so they agreed to match up to $75,000 of funds raised by December 31, 2021.

It will be hard to reach, and as of right now, we are still $50,000 short of our goal. We can’t afford to lose this match. But, we believe that with your help, we can get there.

We recognize that the majority of our followers and subscribers don’t give. Many think they will give in the future but get distracted or forget. Or maybe they think we don’t need it because we aren’t clear in our messaging. We like to share all of the incredible work we do and stay positive during these difficult times, but the truth is, without the funds needed to support our many conservation programs, we simply cannot operate.

Today all I ask is for everyone reading this email to give your best gift to BFREE. If you gave $100 in the past, will you give the same amount again? If you can't afford that much, even $10 helps. We need it.

Together, with your support and the talented and dedicated BFREE staff, we continue to build the future of conservation for this country. We do this through conserving and protecting tropical rainforest and wildlife, training and educating Belize’s up-and-coming conservation leaders, developing novel agroforestry systems for restoring tropical forest, conducting biodiversity research, and providing world-class environmental education programs. Our work to conserve the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Belize will continue in 2022 because of your support.
